About Us

Welcome to the home of Cricket Bat making in North Yorkshire.

Nick Nixon

A ‘Craftsman for Batsmen’ sums up Nick Nixon. Ever since he started repairing cricket bats in his garden shed Nick’s focus has been on precision and quality. His 30 year association with cricket and his family background in carpentry have provided him with the instincts and knowledge to turn top quality English willow into the very best hand made cricket bats.

True to his Yorkshire heritage Nick believes reputations are earned not bought, and with this in mind he set about developing his cricket bat making workshop at the ‘Old Smithy’ in Malton, North Yorkshire. Focussing on quality and value requires Nick to assess each individual willow cleft for weight, grain and colour so that he can transform it into the most appropriate quality, style and weight of hand made cricket bat. Experienced cricketers know what they want from a bat and come to Nick for their precise specification, their perfect cricket bat.

Nick’s normal range incorporates the Storm, Force and Thunder range of cricket bats, each with their own qualities to suit a wide range of customers. Nick  spends many hours each year with his pad and glove manufacturer discussing in minute detail improvements which make the equipment that carries his name, amongst the very best in terms of quality, protection, value and style.

Junior players and those who are not able to play regularly may want practical, value for money cricket equipment. Nick’s humble beginnings taught him what true value meant and gave him an understanding of the requirements for this type of customer. Spend awhile browsing through Nick’s website or visit ‘The Old Smithy’ in Malton North Yorkshire. There is something there for every cricketer, even, if you want it, a bit of friendly advice.
